Are there 2 versions of WTBS? Watched "O Brother" last night, looked
like a different tv station: no "local avails," all sorts of weird
regional commercials (like for the Georgia Lottery) and their "bug"
(down in the lower right corner) said "17TBS."

Do they have two feeds, one for the satellite and one for Atlanta?

Looks like more of Texas to me.
... Arizona, where the nights are warm and the roads are straight.

Yes, there is a cable one that is distributed nationally in the US,
and a local WTBS-17 in the Atlana area. Yes, as of late at least us
Canucks have been getting the WTBS-17, instead of the cable
TBS-Superstation.

Yes but 99% of the time the programming is the same. Only the commercials are
different. Here in Atlanta it is free on ch 17.

Interesting. It was fun, actually, all sorts of different commercials
instead of the tired ol' stuff we get from Rochester and Buffalo (lots
of lawyers - Celino & Barnes being the most obnoxious).

I read in some forum that TBS was moving to an all-comedy format soon.
You're local to them, what's the story you've heard?

I don't know. I don't watch 17 that often. They tend to run the same movies all
the time (Eastwood, "A Few Good Men") and I can only watch the same movie so
many times over. But I sometimes watch the series on there (used to watch
Matlock all the time). I am glad that we in Atlanta are blessed to have an
independent TV station like WTBS. They are very rare in the USA anymore as most
OTA stations are now affiliated with ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, WB or UPN. The rest
are all Spanish, home shopping or religious. Channel 17 here and WICU in
Chicago are the only real independents I know of still on the air.

Not true: KCAL-9 in Los Angeles is very much independent with some very
good (though some eerily similar to PAXSON) programming. KCAL-9 may only
still be on the air due to it's sister-station, CBS affiliate KCBS-2.

Cheers

A while ago, TBS Superstation here in the United States changed it's logo
and may have changed subscription services earlier this month.
On Daylight Savings Time weekend, the TBS Superstation logo was changed to a
regular "TBS" logo.
There are two "TBS" channels in the United States: WTBS-17 in Atlanta and
Turner Broadcasting Station, a superstation waived under the SHVIA act to
carry programming across the United States (unlike WSBK or KTLA, but very
much like WGN, this channel acts as an ordinary cable channel)
