Does the receiver need to be tuned to a certain channel in order to receive
downloads?

I don't think so. Not for the trickle guide SC uses anyway.

YES...IF you are viewing Star choice and want the IPG for Star choice,
Tune to Anik A4 I believe.
If you need to view the US programming guide then you need to point your
dish at G10-13 digital.
